I was present in the Royal Albert Hall for the final appearance of Ella Fitzgerald in March 1990. I was only able to obtain a standing ticket up in the Gallery! It was an unforgettable evening. My most vivid recollection was of her being led onto the stage (by this time she was nearly blind) and she performed some of her most memorable songs to the accompaniment of the Count Basie Orchestra. It was always one of my ambitions to see Ella Fitzgerald live in concert, having missed her at an earlier event at the Royal Festival Hall. I have many cherished memories of having seen her perform live and listening to that unmistakable voice!
