As a child in the 1950s I was taken to The Founders Day celebration in November by coach from Kent. This was when all the money raised by charitable donations was presented to The Children's Society. We were taken from our seats and led through the corridors to come out and walk the centre aisle of the auditorium to curtsey and drop small cloth bags into babies cradles in front of a member of the royal family. Hundreds of children did this and returned to their seats to be entertained by members of a Theatre school or the cast of a West End show. We returned to the coach about 6.00pm for the journey home full of very happy memories.
