In the late 1950's early 60's I was in training to be S.R.N. The Royal Albert Hall was easy to get to but then as now tickets for the Last Night of the Proms difficult to get, so we came to the Friday night instead and in those days the tradition was for Beethoven's 9th Symphony to be played. When the doors opened we went right up to the gallery and then climbed on to and hung to the pillars. I think we were told to get off but we got back on again! I am pretty sure there was nothing to prevent us falling. We did come to other nights but it is the Friday night that sticks in my mind.
